#51 (Part 2) Churchill War Rooms and Dinner at the Winery

And this will be a relatively short one.

In the afternoon of Thursday, we visited the Churchill War Rooms, which we had booked while still at home last week and before the finalized tour schedule.  We took "The Tube" to get there and had a few moments to visit the Parliament area,

The War Rooms were interesting, but to different levels as to Jody and me.  I had trouble with my audio guide apparatus and it took me a while to make it effective.  The rooms were vast and did show the many facets of WW II which were controlled from this area by Churchill and his staff.  Both military and civilian, male and female.
It was very interesting to see an Enigma Machine up close

Then, off to dinner at an English Winery.  Yes, it appears that Britian is starting to produce some fine wines.  Turns out that eons ago, Endland and France were connected, so even after the land masses split, the soil was still the same. Plus, climate change is allowing England to produce wines similar to those in France.  The winery is called London Cru.  They served us a three course meal each with its own wine pairing.  The appetizers were not great, but the main course was very nice.  A delicious meat pie, with mashed potatos and fresh greens.  The lady who hosted the event was Irish and just listening to her speak was a pleasure

On the way back to the hotel, we passed by the US Embassy, where my son, Andrew, often works when he travels to London for his job.
A very unusual building.

Stay tuned for #52, Westminister Abbey and Kensington Palace.
