#50 Sightseeing, Changing of the Guard, The National Gallery and TINA

 Hello Family, Friends and NEW Friends,

         Sorry I'm a few hours late (like 47)  but we have been very busy these last few days.

Our tour is being hosted by Trafalgar Tours.  Our tour director/guide Manuela is phenominal, very efficient, very knowledgable.  She is on top of every situation.  And our bus driver Nigel is a surgeon who uses a bus instead of a scalpel.  He maneuvers that coach in and out of inpossible circumstances.

  We got on the bus for a drive around the city on our way to Buckingham Palace. Some of our "sights" included the "Hung, Drawn and Quartered" Pub; for my fellow Mary Poppins fams, the steps of St. Paul's, a pic of the eastern skyline, including St. Paul's, plus views of the Parliament Building and the Elizabeth Tower (sometimes referred to as Big Ben).  Manuela gave us a heads up on being able to get a shot of the Tower through the spokes of the London Eye.





Got off the bus and walked by St. James Palace, the official residence of King Charles's sister, Princess Anne, though she does not actually live there. From this balcony, they announce every Royal birth abd death.  From there, Manuela led us to a great spot for watching the guards parade by. plus the police officers who keep the route safe for everyone. 




I took this next pic when I noticed this slightly shorter than average musician in the band.  It was only when I was edited the pics did I notice that he was marching beside his 6'3" buddy playing a piccolo,

Manuela said that it was very unusual to have the cavalry present at this ceremony.

#46 Here we go

 Yes, Jody and I are, certainly, getting older.  But we plan on giving it a few more tries.  Tomorrow afternoon, we fly from Miami to Heathrow.  Hopefully, we will be able to get, at least, a little sleep on the plane, because we land shortly after 7 AM and will, probably, not get into our room till threeish.         I have done a good bit of research on the city and its public transportation system.  So we are planning some walks in our area near the hotel plus a bus trip into the Trafalgar Square area.  My intent is to post again on Sunday evening, (which is five hours ahead of Florida time) so check back on Sunday evening to see how we did.  Wish us luck!!!

#47, British Airways and Very Little Sleep

 Leave Jensen Beach at 11AM Saturday morning. Leave the car at a local hotel and get to the airport at 2:15. Check the bags, find our gate and leave Miami at 5:15PM   Our little home for nine hours. But even though we paid a little extra for these seats, we got very little sleep.  We arrived in London  at 6:30 AM London time (1:30 AM Florida time).  Got to our hotel at 9AM, but, as we feared, the room was not going to be ready until 3PM,  So off we head on a preplan walking trip "around the neighborhood". Images from right out side the front door, Then to visit a section of a 1900 years old Roman wall, Then, to a place called Garden at 120, a rooftop Garden on the 15th floor. The first pic shows the Tower of London and Tower Bridge in the foreground, with our hotel and the River Thames behibd. Then a pic of a building nicknamed "The Gurkin" Next, a monument to the !7 century fire which ravaged two thirds of the city.  I'll let the pics tell the story. ...

#48, Stonehenge and Windsor Castle.

 This is shaping up to be a great Tour.  The question is, will my knees hold out. Our hotel is in the eastern half of London. Stonehenge is 70 miles west of London.  So we left at 7:30 AM (damn was that early( and drove straight thru the city.  We passed a very popular pub.  The Famous 3 Kings Pub.  So the second question is a trivia question.  What three kings are they referring to?  Answer in the comments.  I'll reveal the answer next time.    Then, an hour and a half later, Manuela (our guide) tells us we are close when suddenly, Never imagined that you would be able to see it from the highway.  Following are pics from different angles and a little bit of silliness. Then, back in the bus and another hour and a half to Windsor Castle.
